Consept of Design
Many of techniques and works that had a great influence on Japanese pottery have been created in the Chubu region where Mizunami is located. Noritake and Narumi, world famous manufacturers of western style tableware, also started in this area. Chubu is the area that can produce the most westernized products in compare with other producing areas in Japan. Mizunami has both Japanese and Western senses, and hopes to suggest items for European market based on the following two concepts. MIZUNAMI
Redefinition of Zen style, and introduction of Japan culture including customs not known
Europe is now in the middle of a Zen style boom. Zen originates in the Asian culture, especially Japanese, however it has been interpreted in a European way. Some products are sold as a Zen style in European market with poor interpretation that defines Zen only as "simple". From Japan where Zen originates in, we hope to interpret Zen style in the Japanese way, introduce and suggest typical Japanese culture such as sushi and tea, and other wonderful Japanese customs that have not introduced to European market yet. Suggestion for new tableware by young design
Japan has produced excellent gifted architectures, enterprises, and designers, such as Tadao Ando, SONY, COMME des GARCONS, Yoji Yamamoto, Issei Miyake, etc. Now is the time for new designs to rise all over the world. Under this circumstance, Mizunami is planning to start a project in which we invite gifted students from foreign art colleges, and provide them with an opportunity to stay at some companies for the purpose of developing something by working hard together. Through this exchange, people of different nationalities will exchange opinions, influence, and learn each other. Artists
We hope this will produce something new that differs from existing tableware, and brings up Japanese young designers and managers. Like a relationship between University of Art and Design Helsinki and Arabia which is located next to the college, we would like to create a system to commercialize items that created by a young gifted designers, and keep good relationship between enterprises and colleges. We are sure that those new designs are also required in Europe market as well.
